When residing in Hood River, photographer Robbie McClaran believed of the Columbia Gorge as a playground of types. McClaran had a curiosity for the region and needed to discover extra about the Columbia River.

The e book, alongside with other tales of the river and an show showcasing historic images of the Columbia Gorge, sparked his curiosity in documenting the river through analog, not digital, images.

To seize a feeling of the river’s background, he shot the photos highlighted in “The Great River of the West,” on movie employing antique, huge structure cameras.

“It reminds you of photos that ended up manufactured at the time. I guess the camera was made all over the turn of the century,” McClaran claimed. “And so I needed these photos to have that body weight of a historic document.”
