Portion 2’ scenes becoming minimize

Some familiar faces ended up missing from Dune: Aspect Two. When Entertainment Weekly questioned director Denis Villeneuve before this yr about the most difficult decision he experienced to make in adapting the 2nd fifty percent of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel, the filmmaker had a completely ready reply: He was most bummed about shedding Thufir Hawat, the Mentat adviser to Property Atreides played by Stephen McKinley Henderson in 2021’s Dune.

So when EW spoke with Henderson about his job in Alex Garland’s approaching Civil War, we questioned how he felt about not staying aspect of Dune: Section Two. The actor confirmed that he did shoot scenes for the latest movie that ended up ultimately lower.

“I shot things for them and experienced a terrific time with Denis and Austin Butler,” Henderson tells EW. “I received to have a good lunch with Christopher Walken. It was a terrific issue to be a component of, and I realize it comes with the territory. Denis had to do the film that he experienced to do. So I just appreciate being a section of it. No regrets.”

In Herbert’s novel, Hawat survives the massacre of Household Atreides (depicted at the close of Villeneuve’s past film) and is pressured into staying a minion of the villainous House Harkonnen. So that is why he would’ve been interacting with Butler’s character, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

Is there a chance we could possibly see that footage sometime? Henderson surely doesn’t consider so (“you’ll never see it,” he claims) and Villeneuve has earlier explained that he has no intention of creating “extended editions” of his Dune films in the vein of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

“I’m a strong believer that when it’s not in the film, it is useless,” Villeneuve advised Collider in February. “I get rid of darlings, and it is painful for me.”

Although he skipped out on getting component of the finished edition of Villeneuve’s newest film, Henderson is happy he bought to reunite with one more auteur director, Civil War‘s Alex Garland, who also developed the collection Devs, in which Henderson starred.

“Denis instructed me months back that he had to make that slash. It wasn’t like I identified out final week or nearly anything,” Henderson claims. “But what I was considering was, ‘Man, I bought Civil War.’ Really honestly, this was the a single that I was most seeking forward to.”

So for people lacking Henderson on display screen, Civil War hits theaters on April 12. You can examine EW’s in-depth preview below.
